By-pass valves are used as additional equipment, and they are necessary for a quick change-over from hydraulic to manual steering on vessels where regulations prescribe it. They are installed on smaller sailing boats or on smaller boats at customer’s request because of their practicality.

Description
By pass valve is usually a ball valve with corresponding fittings. It is mainly installed into the flexible hoses near hydraulic cylinder, depending on space.

By opening by-pass valve the free flow of hydraulic oil from one side of the cylinder to the other side is enabled and thereby free motion of piston rod, tiller and rudder blade.
